Being the HR Consultant is a dream of many HR Professionals. They have a lot of the professional HR experience, but they do not know, how to start their HR Consulting job without a risk. The HR Consultant has a difficult life. The clients are usually pretty satisfied on their own and their budgets for the consulting services are not utilized if they have any. The decision about the HR Consulting services is usually done at the level of the top management and it is taken as the extra cost not included in the yearly HR budget.
This information is extremely important for the HR Consultant as speaking with the HR employees is not enough. The HR Consultant has to build a burning platform, which is interesting for the top management, as they want to meet and speak with the consultant as they can take a strategic decision about the project in Human Resources with the help of the external consultant.
Becoming the HR Consultant is about finding the way to communicate with the real decision makers. The HR area is so complex, that the HR Projects are not done just internally in Human Resources, but they are organization-wide and the top management wants to be informed about the progress and the top management takes the most important decisions during the steering committees.
The new HR Consultant has to find the area of the expertise and has to start building the contacts through fellow HR Managers to speak with their top managers directly. Without the contacts, the HR Consultant is dead.
