HR and Recession

Our lives were great. The economy was booming for several years and the financial numbers were not that important as we saw “double digit growth” every single year. Wow. Do you remember that? It changed within several days. From the extreme growth we saw the extreme disaster and the companies without a single order for the following quarter of the year. The recession was a new neighbor.

Human Resources used to add new benefits, add new FTEs and bring new training programs as no one took care of the overall costs of the organization. The recession changed the view of the top management from a day to day. The top management was focused on the cost cutting.

Human Resources had to learn the know-how of cost cutting again. The recession changed the priorities of Human Resources. HR had to change the focus to the key groups of employees and leaving the whole organization without a major focus.
