Understanding the client’s priorities
Human Resources and their business partner should align their basic needs. In reality, HR Professionals live a bit out-of-the-box for some internal clients, as their needs are different from the solutions presented by Human Resources.
Many organizations invest a lot of time to run performance management. Many organizations run the performance appraisal round in the period, when they are in the high business season, because HR needs data just in the beginning of the year to pay the bonuses. Many organizations run the performance appraisals just for the bonuses and the salary reviews. The managers want to finish the performance appraisals as soon as possible as they can focus on their business targets. They do the appraisals just to get money from HR.
The real business partner understands the priorities of the client and it able to adjust the schedules and his or her own priorities to reach the full consensus. The managers do not want to avoid the performance appraisals, just a slight move in the schedule could allow to increase the quality of results by several hundreds per cents.
Human Resources has to spend a lot of time just by watching and monitoring its internal clients and writing down their main activities and priorities. As Human Resources can later propose to make some changes into its own plan of activities, which will not endanger the overall results, but the small changes will make the life of the internal client easier.
Human Resources be an excellent business partner, but it has to respect the priorities and it has to be able to adjust the HR Processes to different schedules of its internal clients.
